I love the vibrant coloured poppies against the midnight blue background in this medium poppy painting. The thick impasto appplication of paint makes the poppies stand proud of the deep blue behind and the white table top lifts the whole composition.

I have used smooth brushwork for the background and impasto application for the flowers, stems and vase so the viewer sees contrasts in textures as well as in colours.

The painting is protected from UV and dust with several coats of professional artist varnish.
