The highly textured pinks in this original poppy painting range from deep aubergines through magenta tones to a powder pink. The pinks contrast well with the gentle sage green background and the white foreground brightens the whole composition.

As Frida Kahlo is reputed to have said ‘I paint flowers so they will not die’ means that these flowers can adorn your home for years to come.

In this larger painting (almost 1m x 1m) I have used smooth brushwork for the background and thick impasto application for the subject so the viewer sees contrasts in textures as well as in colours.
